Blackpool and the Fylde College student demonstrates success of T Levels

A T Level student at Blackpool and the Fylde College has been offered a prestigious degree apprenticeship opportunity following a successful industry placement.

T Level courses are designed for students aged 16-19 offering a technical alternative to A Levels. They are equivalent to 3 A Levels and combine classroom learning with practical experience through an industry placement. Completing the course opens the door to skilled employment, Higher Education or a Higher/Degree Apprenticeships. T Levels offer a valuable path for students looking to gain comprehensive technical education and hands on experience, bridging the gap between academic study and the demand for the workplace.

Cordelia Waterland-Jones has recently completed the Digital Support Services T Level programme whilst attending her work placement at BAE Systems in Barrow. Mainly working in the Cyber department, Cordelia was able to develop her collaboration and creativity skills. She worked with small teams on real life projects and got taught new software and technical skills.

Cordelia told us that “having the opportunity to explore different departments within my dream place to work has highlighted to me that cyber security is definitely my career path.”

The workplace mentor within BAE, who worked closely with the line managers and team members who supported Cordelia throughout her work placement, described Cordelia’s best skills and attributes as motivated, showing a great willingness to learn, adaptable and having the ability to pick up new skills in a fast-paced, large organisation. “Cordelia was an outstanding candidate on her T-Level placement and the business cannot wait for her to start her degree apprenticeship in September”.

Blackpool and the Fylde College supported the student and the employer throughout the whole process, before, during and after the placement. We believe all these stages are important.

Overall, it has been a very successful outcome for both the student and the employer.

The tutor at the college said that the academic element of the T Level programme, coupled with the industry placement is a transformative journey, equipping our students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen pathway. Being offered a Degree Apprenticeship in BAE is the best possible outcome for such a hardworking and passionate student.
